CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA — Boeing has rolled out its newest commercial aircraft, the 787-10, which is the third version of its 787 Dreamliner.

The rollout took place last week in Charleston, South Carolina, where the 787-10 will be manufactured. Like other Dreamliners, the 787-10 is made with composite materials and sharper wings that help increase fuel efficiency and offer a smoother ride.

The 787-10 version of the Dreamliner is 18 feet longer than its predecessor, the 787-9. This allows the 787-10 to carry 40 more passengers and 15 percent more cargo. The tradeoff, however, is shorter range. The 787-10 has a range of 6,430 miles compared with the 7,635 miles for the 787-9.

Still, Boeing promises 10~25% fuel savings compared with planes the 787-10 is designed to compete with or replace along those routes.
