Ursa Mini 4k Camera | Indoors Low Light Test Review | Download Test Footage
  • 7 years ago
Hi guys. I've received few requests / questions of people asking me to do indoors low light test with my Ursa Mini 4k EF cinema camera. Here is the video that can show you what the Ursa Mini 4k footage looks like at the following conditions and settings:

Indoors with no house or any other lights turned on. Just some daylight coming through a far window infront of the scene.
1. Lens used is Sigma Art 18-35mm and aperture set at f1.8
2. 4k RAW Lossless @ 60fps
3. ProRes HQ @ 60fps (I know I said ProRes 4444 in my announcement but I forgot that UM4k can only record up to 40fps while shooting at 4444 so I've recorder ProRes HQ instead to get the 60fps).
4. Flat camera picture profile (Film)
5. Test footage is not manipulated in post. No color correction or grading.
6. Camera firmware is 4.0

As you can see there is a lot of fixed pattern noise (fpn) when you are shooting indoors and have no artificial lights added. That's pretty normal for these cinema cameras. The sensor is really light hungry so consider that if you're thinking of getting this camera. However the pictures it produces are gorgeous.. if you know what you're doing :)

Announcement and test shots taken on Blackmagic Design's Ursa Mini 4k EF cinema camera. Shots of the Ursa Mini 4k camera at the end are taken with Canon EOS 550D in Full HD resolution and upscaled at post to Ultra HD. Tripod used was the Benro A373T (legs, base) with Benro S8 head. Slider used in the video is the Konova K5 video camera slider.

Export settings:
Resolution - 3840 x 2160 (Full HD)
Quicktime H.264
25 fps

Audio recorded in camera using the RODE Filmmaker Kit wireless lavalier microphone. Voice over at the end recorded with the built in microphones of Tascam DR-44WL portable audio recorder.

Video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017. Video color corrected and color graded in DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Studio. I am also using the X-rite Color Checker Passport Video to make my life a bit easier and speed up my color correction workflow.
