The Syrian chief negotiator has hailed Iran’s role in Astana talks, slamming the opposition delegation criticism of Tehran’s involvement in the negotiations.
Bashar al-Ja’afari said it is really pitiful to hear that the opposition is criticizing one of the three guarantors which facilitated reaching the final communiqué. He described the talks as a success, expressing support for the joint statement by Iran, Russia and Turkey. The Syrian negotiator noted that Astana talks pave the way for further negotiations on the issue. Ja’afari said the Syrian government will do whatever it takes to prevent further bloodshed. He also stressed that the army’s offensive will continue in Wadi Barada area near the capital Damascus as long as the capital remains deprived of water.
