Trump's inauguration day: First orders, three balls and four tweets

Just hours after taking office, Donald Trump signed off on an executive order to start the rollback of Obamacare.

The US president is making good on a campaign promise to dismantle his predecessor’s healthcare bill giving insurance to millions of Americans.

It specifically called on government agencies to “ease the burdens” of the Affordable Healthcare Act.

He also signed commissions for his newly confirmed defense secretary James Mattis and homeland security secretary, John Kelly.

Earlier on he promised to end what he called ‘American carnage’, cracking down on crime and unemployment. His inaugural speech struck a populist and nationalist tone when he said ‘From this day forward it’s going to be only America first’. A speech unlikely to unite a nation divided by a bruising presidential campaign.

Trump enters office with the lowest rating for an incoming president since Jimmy Carter in 1977 and he is still plagued by allegations of Russian hacking of the elections.

Shrugging off any criticism, Trump ended his inaugural day with not one but three balls.

Along with the first lady, he swayed on the spot to the unapologetic ‘My Way’.

Before the day was over the new president had already tweeted four times.
