Many gardeners consider this plant, commonly known as Asiatic Dayflower (Commelina Communis), as an unwanted weed in their gardens.
I want to see how it will grow in aquariums.
The stem grows in squares.
It would make interesting designs.
October 6th, 2016
I placed a couple of cuts in a cup with water from an aquarium.
October 13th, 2016
The roots sprouted during the 1st week.
Leaves submerged under water get sick and wilted.
I am going to put the plant in one of my plastic bottle aquariums.
October 22nd, 2016
Roots sprout from the base of each stem submerged under water!
And the flower is blooming!
Shortly after you may find seeds!
It remains to be seen if these seeds are fertile.
The seeds are about 2-3 mm long.
I spotted this blooming flower at 9 am.
Here is the same flower at about 3 pm.
And the same flower at about 8 pm.
Do you ever wonder why this plant is named the Dayflower?
It blooms only one day!
For such a short life of flowers, it compensates by frequent blooming!
The roots of the flower serve as tasty snacks for fish occasionally.
There is much more to say about this plant.
I leave it for another time.
Have fun and happy aquarium garden :)
