A number of well-established artists are asking Ivanka Trump to take their works off her walls, reports Bloomberg.
They are making their wishes known through the Halt Action Group, or HAG, which was founded by influential players in the world of making, displaying, and selling contemporary art.
Among HAG’s endeavors is an Instagram campaign called ‘Dear Ivanka.’
HAG co-founder Alison Gingeras, a prominent curator, told Bloomberg that the group has been inviting artists to speak out via the social media site and aid the goal of pushing Ivanka, “to answer for some of the hypocrisy she embodies.”
Among those answering that call is Alex Da Corte.
He wrote beneath a social media photo post showing Ivanka next to one of his works, “Dear @Ivankatrump please get my work off of your walls. I am embarrassed to be seen with you.”
That embarrassment seems to extend beyond the art world.
In November, the Trump name was removed from three apartment buildings located in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, following a resident-powered campaign.
Reasons cited on the petition included Trump’s, “appalling treatment of women, his history of racism, his attacks on immigrants, his mockery of the disabled, his tax avoidance, his outright lying..."
How much influence Ivanka will have over her father and his controversial views remains to be seen, but it appears both she and her husband, Jared Kushner, intend to be active in his administration, notes CNN.
