The final honour of the 2016 FIA Prize Giving evening was fittingly reserved for the new FIA Formula One World Champion – Nico Rosberg. The moment came with even greater significance, following the German’s surprise announcement at today’s earlier press conference that he will be retiring from the sport with immediate effect. Rosberg’s title tilt came to a climax just last weekend in a thrilling duel at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but now the World Champion can savour his victory with the plaudits of the whole motor sport community. Rosberg said, “Im so proud to be here. Its been a pretty intense period - but my childhood dream. When I saw this trophy for the first time today, I immediately went and found where my dad was. To share that with him is very, very special.”
