Riffing on the legendary stories surrounding the real Wild Bill Hickok, classic film producer and screenwriter John Carpenter creates a new tale about the events leading up to Hickok’s death in I Killed Wild Bill Hickok. With much pomp and flair, this action loaded film builds to a scintillating encounter at high noon between Wild Bill and Johnny Rebel. Thanks to a tremendous cast (Denver Pyle and Virginia Gibson are particularly excellent) and well built scenes, the movie never misses a beat while it flows briskly towards the conclusion that the title spells out. While I Killed Wild Bill Hickok wouldn’t be appropriate for a history class, its drama, action, and wild-west flourish make it perfect for an enjoyable movie watching experience.
