Last week, President-elect Donald Trump met with three of his business partners from India, raising more questions about potential conflicts of interest between his office and his commercial dealings, reports ABC News.
According to a spokesperson for the Trump Organization, the men, who are licensing Trump’s name for a luxury property development near Mumbai, simply traveled to New York to congratulate him.
Indian newspapers characterized the exchange as being significantly more involved, notes the New York Times.
A number reported that, according to one of the businessmen present, the discussion included talks of expanding dealings with the Trump Organization.
According to the New York Times, photos taken at the meeting show Ivanka and Erik were in attendance as well.
The reports come not long after Ivanka’s presence at President-elect Trump’s meeting with the leader of Japan spurred concerns about Trump’s plan to place his business in the hands of his children rather than putting it into a more traditional blind trust.
Noah Bookbinder of Citizens of Responsibility and Ethics noted, “Donald Trump’s children and son-in-law have been deeply involved in the transition and selecting who will be part of his administration. At the same time they are deeply involved in the business. There does not seem to be any sign of a meaningful separation of Trump government operations and his business operations.”
