A luxury toilet-seat manufacturer in China is selling its products under the ‘Trump’ name, but says the brand has nothing to do with Donald Trump, reports NBC News.
Zhong Jiye, the founder of the Shenzhen Trump Industrial Company Limited, reports the business registered the trademark for ‘Trump’ in 2002.
He told the New York Times that back then, “We really didn’t know of this person called Trump. It was entirely a coincidence.”
The name was selected in part because of its meaning, “innovate universally.”
True to that translation, the toilet seats offer some inventive features like washing and warming.
Future products may also be able to perform pregnancy tests, electrocardiograms, and body mass calculations.
China is relatively new to the granting of trademarks, and at this time largely awards them on a first-come-first-serve basis, notes the New York Times.
It is unclear if Trump, the man not the toilet seat, would have much success should he put up a challenge.
