WikiLeaks recently reported via Twitter that "a state party" had cut the Internet connection of founder Julian Assange.
The Monday alert was accompanied by assurances that the "appropriate contingency plans" had been set in motion.
Also posted were three odd "pre-commitment" messages including 64-character codes and referencing John Kerry, Ecuador, and the Foreign Commonwealth Office of the U.K.
A bevy of Internet users immediately shared their theories.
On Reddit, some suggested the codes were part of "dead man’s switch," but the Ecuadorian Embassy where Assange lives has since announced that he is alive and well.
Others took to Twitter offering both explanations and fixes.
One wrote, “’appropriate contingency plans’ = have a friend pop on down to starbucks.”
Another asked, “Have you tried resetting the router?”
