Epica: 'We Went More Into Detail Than Ever Before'

With every album release Dutch symphonic metal band Epica seems to be more successful, and having success has its perks. Their seventh album The Holographic Principle builds on the momentum of its predecessor The Quantum Enigma, but with the aim to “evolve in a natural way and not revolve where everything is going too fast,” says lead vocalist Simone Simons. “We allowed ourselves to have real instruments recorded and not samples. We're a very orchestral band, in the past we've used strings, but this time we wanted a whole brass section, woodwinds, all the exotic instruments, so we really went into more detail than ever before.”
