Chinese killing spree: 19 dead after man allegedly goes berzerk on being denied loans

KUNMING, CHINA — A man has been arrested following a mass killing in a remote village in China’s Yunnan province that claimed the lives of 19 people.

The attack took place in Yema Village in Huize County on Wednesday night. According to Chinese outlet, Sina, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Yang Qingpei, allegedly visited his relatives to borrow money to repay his gambling debt and killed them when they refused to lend him money.

Police came to one of the houses on Thursday morning and found two bodies. They then checked five houses nearby and found 17 more bodies. All victims were related to the suspect. The oldest was seventy-two and the youngest was just three years old.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday afternoon in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province, about 200 km away from Yema village.
