Size 1,325,000 active personnel
2,143,000 reserve personnel
It operates around 150 helicopters.

Approx. 1,721 to 1,724 aircraft
1.India one of the very few(just 3-4) nations to have complete nuclear triad. i.e. capability to launch nuclear weapons from land ,air and sea.
2.again one of the 4 countries to actually have a aircraft carrier and have experience to use it in war of 71.
3.worlds fastest cruise missile BRAHMOS beating everyone in this category. yes even usa.
4.Agni and prithvi missiles, Sukhoi SU 30 MKI fighter jets, now 34 rafales too, a leased nuclear submarine, akula class submarines being built, warships, few recently build comprising of israeli missiles, russian systems and indian state of the art radar and search technology.
5.military power , 3rd largest standing army in the world and largest reserve army in the world.
6.apache helicopters, attack helicopters, C-17 globemasters, hercules,and certain others, the list is long and the names are difficult to remeber.
7.experience of wars , now this is a very major thing , india use utter brilliance in war of 71 where they forced 90000 pak soldiers to surrender in few hrs and winning of kargil war.
8.so chill, we have a long way to go in air force upgradation and nuclear submarines but our defence is not bad , we stand 4th overall in power index on defence.

This is the jewel of the Indian Army, the blitzkrieg attack on East Pakistan could not really have been bettered by any other army.
Modern Indian Armed Forces
In the occasional exercise with the US, the Indian forces very much hold their own, although talk of them 'beating' the US is exaggerated. The Cope India series of exercise in particular have given the patriotic Indian much to cheer about, with the US Air Force afterwards admitting it underestimated India's capabilities and tactics.
Equipment
Much of the Indian Army's equipment is not of the very front rank, compared to the best of Western equipment, and most issues with the Indian Army do concern modernisation of its equipment, which is not complete.
However, the existing equipment is likely to be adequate to the missions it may be required to carry out, and the way India is building its own armaments industry is likely to pay dividends eventually.
The Future
We would expect that in future the Indian army will continue its rise and at the least maintain its position as the pre-eminent force in the subcontinent.
IAF's top Gun - Su-30MKI. That counts among the Top 4.5th gen jets in the World. IAF has 170 of them, forming the backbone
Indian Army best tanks - Arjun and T-90. T-90s are already known all around the world, India has about 800 of them. Arjun on the other hand, made the T-90 look inferior to its capabilities when they were tested with each other in 2010. From my research, Arjun is around the 7th best tank in the World, T-90 is like the 10th best..
Navy - 2 Aircraft Carriers, Stealth Frigates, Stealth Destroyers, Stealth Corvettes. All 21st century material, equipped with the World's fastest Anti-ship cruise missile, BrahMos. Got a Nuclear submarine too now.
Strategic weapons - Various missiles, from SRBMs to ICBMs to cruise missiles,etc.
Hisory..Wars/conflicts during 1947,61,65,67,,71,84,99. Won all, except 62. Also the 3rd largest countributor to UN peacekeeping and has troops serving all around the world. Some of the best trained forces and SFs ever seen.
