Authorities in West Jordan, Utah are investigating the alleged suffocation death of a 2-year-old under the watch of daycare workers but at this time are calling the incident a “tragic accident.”
According to Danielle Sanchez, the child’s mother, Baby Leo was playing with others at the West Jordan Child Center when he crawled beneath a bean bag.
Shortly after, an adult allegedly sat on the bean bag and began to read stories to the children, notes KUTV.
A surveillance video reportedly shows that 5 to 15 minutes passed before Leo’s absence was noticed, and he was soon found beneath the bean bag and unresponsive.
CPR was attempted, but the toddler was pronounced dead upon arriving at an area hospital.
The Department of Health is also conducting an inquiry into the child’s death and the facility where it occurred.
