Military land grabs leave farmers in despair

Burma's transition from 50 years of military rule to a majority civilian government has won widespread praise. But many say that the military still dominate, pointing to its sweeping powers under the constitution, and a tight grip on the economy. For farmers who happen to be in the way of the military's business plans, land grabs are commonplace as their civil rights continue to get trampled under army boots.
