Worst Western Movie Ever Made: Border Vengeance (1935)

A fine piece of classic “bad” cinema, Border Vengeance is an action western full of amusingly wooden acting, cheap sets, and enough mistakes to make Ed Wood blush. Producer Willis Kent was known for exploitation films and over the top melodramas made for shoestring budgets, and Border Vengeance is no different. The film stars amateur actor Lafayette “Reb” Russell, a football star turned actor who is little more than an imposing physique. The movie also boasts more violence and blood than almost any western made in the 1930s, going along with Kent’s penchant for exploitation. Border Vengeance is a curious piece of cinematic history, in some ways pushing the envelope for content and at others hilariously cutting every financial corner imaginable.
