Applications For Dallas Police Department Surge In Weeks Since Fatal Shootings

In the weeks since the fatal shootings of 5 police officers, there has been a surge in people wanting to work for the Dallas Police Department.

In the weeks since the July 7 fatal shootings of 5 police officers in Dallas, there has been a surge in people wanting to work for the Dallas Police Department.
Between June 8 and June 20, the department received 136 job applications. During that same period in July, nearly 470 people put in applications for employment, reports the Washington Post.
It is unknown exactly what is behind the roughly 345% increase in interest following the shootings, but many believe an address given by Dallas Police Chief David Brown just days after the massacre is largely responsible.
During a press conference he said, “We’re hiring. Get off that protest line and put an application in. We’ll put you in your neighborhood and help you resolve some of those problems.”
Brown has also noted, "I just love Dallas...I love serving. It's part of my character. It's part of who I am. Out of all the crap we have to take as police officers, the satisfaction you get with serving (is) much more gratifying."
