Giant alligators typically instill fear in those close by, but in the case of one such reptile spotted in Fort Myers, Florida, the reaction was one of amazement, reports The News-Press‎.
On Monday, workers with the Lee County Department of Transportation pulled the body of a deceased 11-foot gator out of a storm drain.
Staff became aware of the situation through a complaint concerning a foul odor.
When personnel arrived and took a whiff for themselves, they immediately suspected a dead alligator was the cause.
A closer inspection revealed they were correct, but what they hadn’t anticipated was the reptile’s commanding size, notes WTSP.
In order to retrieve the beast, the crew had to use an excavator.
According to a department report, the gator was taken to an official dead animal disposal area and buried.
