Any doctor who performs an abortion in Oklahoma could be charged with a felony and hit with up to three years in prison under a billpassed by the Legislature Thursday.
The measure is the first of its kind in the nation.
It would also restrict any physician who performs an abortion from getting or renewing a license to practice medicine inOklahoma.
The Senate voted 33-12 Thursday for the bill by RepublicanSen. Nathan Dahm with no discussion or debate.
A handful of Republicans joined Democrats in voting against the bill.
Abortion rights supporters said the bill is unconstitutional and will be challenged immediately.
