man, I have been to Cuba, and Venezuela is nothing like it... which is good and bad, because the history of Venezuela has led its society (although recovering) in a state of fragility, while Cuba is really stable. In Venezuela there is a degree of freedom of expression that is most abusive and threatens any democratic progress, as the upper classes have a virtual monopoly on the means of mass communication... I know because I come from the upper middle class, and I have seen how dismissive my family and friends are to the majority of the population. Chavez is a problematic character, but he is also a very conscious leader, and the measures taken by the administration has manifested in social progress that we (as a nation) have not seen in a very very very long time. Don't take what the mainstream means of communication tell you... there is so much more to the reality that is the Venezuelan brand of socialism that is unfolding today. Cheers.
