FIDDLER ON THE ROOF / VIOLINISTA NA KROVU
Authors: Joseph Stein - Jerry Bock
Director: Attila Beres

Fiddler on the Roof is a significant performance which appeared at the end of last season and marked the current theater season in Novi Sad. Firstly, it is an example of successful co-production, which is increasingly becoming a requirement, and even, if you will, a necessity in our theater life. There is a lot of symbolism in the fact that the two ensembles which have so far been divided not only by two blocks of streets, but also by differences in tradition, language and style, had selected this particular musical to be their first joint production. Fiddler on the Roof is about a little man who is fighting for survival and preservation of identity, going in the process beyond his own borders that are woven from tradition, belief, social and class realities. Only when we transcend our own limits we might hope to overcome what appears to be a necessity and destiny; only then can we hope that new roads shall open up for us enabling us to give support to our loved ones in their search for happiness. Fiddler on the Roof is a musical created from the finest quality dramatic performances involving an opera ensemble and corps de ballet. Music weft is reduced, corresponds to the story, and another specialty of this show is that music is performed live by the famous Klemm'n'band Klezmer band. Teamwork in this play is impressive, as is its liveliness, energy, belief in the mission of this theater project and, above all, its big, really big positive energy and professionalism.
