Quick Tip: DIY Mid-Race Hydration
Pit stops during off-road races can be just as frantic and exciting as NASCAR. If you head out to a GNCC, or any other long off-road race with multiple laps, you’ll see a lot of professional riders not wearing hydration packs. Instead, they opt for a quick slug of liquid when they come skidding in under their teams E-Z Up. Since they are not taking off their helmet nor are they stopped for very long, a homemade water bottle/drink tube combo works well. By drilling a hole in the lid of the bottle slightly smaller than a length vinyl tube, you can make a bottle of water that the rider can slip under his helmet, clamp his teeth on and ride off while draining as much as he needs. This is a hands-free hydration option for racers that just don’t have time to spare. And it is best to have a predetermined drop zone so you can pick them up after the race. NO LITTERING!
