Dude arrested for overdue VHS tape from 2002

CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA — A 37-year-old father was arrested for an overdue VHS rental of the critically panned comedy "Freddy Got Fingered" last week.
According to NBC News, James Meyer Jr. was booked for the misdemeanor offence after police ran his license during a traffic stop concerning a broken tail light on Meyer's vehicle. Meyers was taking his 10-year-old daughter to school at the time. He wasn't arrested at the scene, but was later served with the warrant for his arrest at the police station. "I don't remember ever owning it, renting it, or watching it," Meyers told NBC News.
Meyers, who works as a DJ under the name "Mad Influence" could reportedly receive a criminal record for the case if it's not dismissed. But prosecutors says this is unlikely because it will be hard to show that he held onto the tape all this time, NBC News reported. In addition, the place he rented the video from has gone out of business. After hearing about the story, Tom Green — the star of the movie — offered to help pay Meyers' legal fees, reported NBC News, citing the New York Times.
Despite the arrest, Meyers seems to be benefitting from his newfound fame and has done the rounds on media outlets across the U.S. According to a post on his Mad Influence Facebook page, he scored tickets to the opening of the musical "American Psycho."
