HESSTON, KANSAS — A gunman opened fire at multiple locations in Kansas, killing three people and injuring 14 others on Thursday.

The gunman has been identified as 38-year-old Cedric Ford of Newton. It is believed he was armed with a .223-caliber assault-style rifle and a pistol.

He was driving when he began the attack in the town of Newton, where he shot two drivers and stole one of the victim's car and drove to Excel Industries where Ford previously worked, Reuters reported.

"This is a horrible situation my friends, just terrible," Reuters quoted Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton as saying. "There were some things that triggered this particular individual."
