We formed The Pediatric Sun Protection Foundation (PSPF) to increase public awareness of the cumulative dangers of childhood sun exposure and to promote the use of a number of sun protection methods; principally sun protective clothing. Sun protective clothing is a crucial yet relatively unknown tool to prevent sun damage and reduce the risk of skin cancer. Skin cancer, especially life threatening melanoma, is on the rise in our nation. As a result, our concern for our own children, grew into a passion to help all parents understand and protect their families from the serious lifelong skin cancer risks associated with childhood sun exposure.

Our goal is to change behavior over time such that the wearing of sun shields is accepted as the norm by all children in our society. The Sun Shield is the bicycle helmet of sun safety.
