2-feet-long metal bar crashes through windshield of New Jersey bus, hits passenger in head

LINDEN, NEW JERSEY — A man was injured after a piece of scrap metal crashed through the windshield of the bus that he was riding in New Jersey on Thursday.

The accident took place after a truck changed lanes on the New Jersey Turnpike shortly before 4 p.m. A roughly 2-feet-long scrap metal flew off of the truck and crashed through the right-side windshield of a New Jersey Transit bus, hitting a male passenger in the head.

"I saw the guy leaning over and covered with blood. He definitely needed stitches. He was complaining of a bad headache, nausea, dizziness." Samuel Avery, a passenger on the bus told New York Daily News.

The bus had 59 passengers on-board at the time. A total of three passengers were seriously injured in the accident.

A man and a woman were taken to University Hospital in Newark while another woman was treated at Trinity Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Their injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.
