Hunger Strike: MQM Hunger Strike at 10 Downing Street

The Muttahida Quami Movement has sit on a hunger strike in front of 10-Downing Street – the official residence of the British Prime Minister – to register a protest against the illegal and undemocratic ban on the speeches, news, views and interviews of MQM Chief Mr. Altaf Hussain on Pakistani media.
The hunger strike is started at 10 AM of UK local time and is hugely participated by the members of Coordination Committee, including Convener Nadeem Nusrat, Wasey Jalil, Qasim Ali Raza, Dr Saleem Danish, Muhammad Anwar, Mustafa Azizabadi, Inbisat Malik, Manzoor Ahmed, Joint-Incharge MQM UK Suhail Khanzada, office-bearers of International Secretariat, workers and supporters.
Talking on the occasion, the Convener of Muttahida Quami Movement Nadeem Nusrat said that all the national political leaders, including Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari, Imran Khan, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Syed Manawwar Hassan, and Asfandyar Wali Khan also criticized the government and institutions but never be reprimanded. He said that nobody was silenced neither their speeches, news, views and interviews, were banned to broadcast or publish on print and electronic media respectively.
Nadeem Nusrat said that on the other hand, MQM Chief was silenced on print and electronic media for raising voices, protesting against the extra-judicial killings and arbitrary arrests of his party workers. He said that he just criticized the unconstitutional activism of law enforcement agencies while his speeches were conceived out of context.
He said that his speeches, news, interviews were banned for the last year although Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lal Masjid was allowed on the media but the leader of a liberal and political party was silenced. He said that the government deprived him from his fundamental right to the freedom of speech.
The Convener demanded the government and the authorities to immediately lift the ban on his media appearance and let him communicate and guide his people.
