The mystery surrounding a famous dinner which happened 65 years ago may have been solved. A recently published study has found that the Explorers Club’s annual dinner in 1951 did not feature a giant ground sloth or mammoth as many had thought.

A recently published study has found that the Explorers Club’s annual dinner in 1951 did not feature a giant ground sloth or mammoth as many had thought. 

The investigation began when Matt Davis, a graduate student and club member, heard the school had a sample from the meal. 

Eventually, he found the jar which was labeled “Megatherium (Extinct Sloth)” by Wendell Phillips Dodge, the man who organized the gathering.
