“One Nation, One conversation” is a project launched by a startup and supported by South African institutions. The name says it all. It’s not always easy to understand each other in a country with 11 official languages. Aweza, a mobile translation app designed under the project, makes dialogue a lot smoother. Using gamification techniques, it encourages volunteers to record their own pronunciation of translated phrases. The result is not only a useful tool but a crowdsourced cultural database.
