Lake Poopó, the second largest lake in Bolivia, has dried up, and the condition is believed to be irreversible; factors in its demise include global warming and pollution from nearby mining.

One country’s second largest lake has gone dry.
Photos of the devastation include abandoned boats, the remains of dead birds and fish, and a cracked expanse of what is now, in effect, a desert. 
The area in crisis is Bolivia’s Lake Poopó which was once twice the size of Los Angeles. 
Because it sits at more than 12,000 feet high, it has experienced climate-related shifts in the past. 
However, many believe the current state is likely irreversible,
