Suicide attacker detonates bomb near Russian embassy in Afghanistan, killing at least four
  • 8 years ago
KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — At least four people were killed after a suicide bomber launched an attack in the diplomatic area of the Afghan capital Kabul, officials say. Officials say about 20 others were also injured in the attack.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, but the BBC reported that the Taliban will be the main suspects as the terror organization has previously launched numerous attacks in the city.

According to the BBC, news agency Tolo News reported the bomb was detonated by a motorcycle rider who was targeting a civilian bus in the west of the city. However, the Associated press quoted interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi as saying that the explosion was caused by a car bomb.

Although the blast took place near the Russian embassy, it is unclear whether it was the target of the explosion, according to the BBC.

The BBC reports that Kabul has been hit by at least at least six bomb attacks since the beginning of 2016.
