Pavement – Cut Your Hair, the Derek Quinlan analysis

2 years ago11 views

For Derek Quinlan, Pavement have to go down as one of the best bands from the 90s. The slacker band which was formed in 1989 released 3 classic albums and their catalogue features some of the best songs in Indie rock history. Although they were disliked greatly by many alternative bands and critics, who saw their lazy style of playing as irritating, the band nonetheless gained a cult following that followed them around the country in support of their studio albums.

Frontman Steven Malkmus, a Derek Quinlan favourite, fell out with the frontman of the band The Smashing Pumpkins, after mentioning his name in a song. This prompted an irate Billy Corgan to refuse to play with Pavement at the same festival. These were common moments in the career of Pavement and enamoured them more to their own fans.
