Argentina: Macri to Push His Agenda in Mercosur

Argentina’s new President Mauricio Macri has made it clear that he will be pushing his free trade agenda in Mercosur despite criticisms that agreements such as those with the European Union and the Pacific Alliance will benefit Argentina’s exporting sectors led by big landowners, while destroying small businesses and local jobs. Under previous administrations, Argentina pushed for regional integration, South-South trade agreements and a pro-BRICs orientation, and some analysts believe that Latin America will proceed along this path despite Macri's intentions.
