Republic of Kazakhstan celebrates 24 years as independent state

Madrid, Dec 14 (EFE), (Camera: Luis Aguilar).- Kazakhstan's embassy in Madrid on Monday invited friends and diplomats accredited in the Spanish capital to a festive evening in celebration of the Central Asian nation's twenty-fourth anniversary as a sovereign state.

Kazakhstan gained its independence from what was then the Soviet Union on December 16, 1991 under the leadership of the current Kazak leader, President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
