In the aftermath of Turkey’s downing of a Russian fighter jet, the Secretary General of NATO announced that a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting would be held to discuss ways to reduce the risk of an escalation in tensions with Russia. He added that NATO would continue to support Turkey in securing its air defense, saying that Turkey is an important ally. According to a Syrian analyst interviewed by teleSUR, “NATO and the United States are behind Turkey. They’re trying to increase the duration of the crisis and are investing even more in this war to achieve their policy interests in the region.” Hazem Abdullah reports from Damascus for teleSUR.
