Christian Uber driver threatened and beaten by passenger who thought he was a Muslim

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA — An Uber driver in Charlotte, North Carolina was assaulted on Sunday morning by a passenger who accused him of being a Muslim, WBTV reported.
The driver, Samson Woldemichael, picked up his fare at a bar around 2 a.m. on Sunday. Woldemichael told WSOC-TV that the passenger said he was from Boston. As they approached the destination, the passenger became hostile and asked Woldemichael if he was a Muslim.
Woldemichael, who moved to the U.S. eight years ago from Ethiopia and identifies as a Christian, told the passenger that he was not a Muslim. The passenger apparently did not believe him and punched Woldemichael in the head repeatedly. "He said he's gonna shoot me right in the face. He's gonna strangle me. I asked him why. He was calling me too many bad word names ... insulting me. He told me I was a Muslim." Woldemichael told WBTV.
Woldemichael stopped the car and laid on the horn for help until the passenger fled on foot and Woldemichael called 911.
Uber registration could aid authorities in their investigation of the incident and help them to track down the passenger.
