Havana: FARC and Gov’t Discuss Ratification of Peace Deal
  • 8 years ago
A delegation of the Colombian government met with FARC leaders in Havana to discuss the judicial steps necessary to ratify and implement the final peace agreement in 2016. Both sides have agreed on a March 23 deadline for finalizing the peace process after three years of talks. The final agreement must be ratified in a referendum before becoming law in order to guarantee physical, political and judicial security for those who have put down their weapons. President Juan Manuel Santos has said he will personally contact all five members of the Security Council to ask the United Nations to ratify the final peace agreement. teleSUR
