The biography by the name 'Smita Patil: A Brief Incandescence', authored by Maithili Rao, was unveiled in the presence of Amitabh Bachchan and Shyam Benegal sharing the dais. Many Bollywood celebrities right from Shabana Azmi to Jaya Bachchan and Sonali Kulkarni to Nandita Das made it to the event and recalled a brief, but influential career of Smita Patil.


Smita Patil made her film debut with Shyam Benegal's Charandas Chor and she became one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema. Smita being an active feminist did roles that often represented an intelligent femininity against the conventional background of male-dominated cinema. She was also romantically involved with actor Raj Babbar whom she later married..
