NASA’s Cassini spacecraft has been exploring Saturn and the ringed planet’s orbiting bodies for over a decade.
On Wednesday, the veteran explorer will fly directly into the icy plume sprouting from the planet's moon Enceladus' south polar region.
Cassini has already determined that a global ocean lies beneath the frozen surface of the moon, and that the underground expanse of water may even be the site of hydrothermal activity. 
While that could indicate simple life forms exist there, NASA stresses that making such a discovery is not the primary focus of the upcoming mission.
