Snowden and Greenwald Call for International Treaty to Protect Digital Privacy
  • 9 years ago
Journalist Glenn Greenwald and NSA surveillance whistleblower Edward Snowden jointly called for new international laws to protect digital privacy and government whistleblowers in New York on Thursday. The proposed "Snowden Treaty" is the project of privacy activist David Miranda, Greenwald's partner who was detained by British authorities under anti-terrorism laws for nine hours in August 2013 during the initial leaks by Snowden, who blew the whistle on mass surveillance being carried out by US intelligence agencies against US citizens.
