Pope Francis is set to attend an inter-faith event on Friday at New York's "Ground Zero" site, to commemorate the victims of the 9/11 attacks, after his first address to the UN General Assembly. The visit to the former site of the iconic World Trade Center, destroyed when Islamists crashed planes into its twin towers on September 11, 2001, is an attempt to unite religions in the fight against fanaticism. Francis has repeatedly spoken out against violence in the name of religion, without naming the Al Qaeda or Islamic State groups.
