Migrants: Angela Merkel visits Berlin registration centre
  • 9 years ago
Angela Merkel has visited a centre processing asylum applications in Berlin.

The German Chancellor praised employees for their hard work and dedication. She stressed the need to try and help migrants and refugees integrate into their new environment by helping them find work and learn the language.

The EU Commission has proposed a plan for the distribution of 160.000 migrants.

450,000 migrants have registered with the German authorities since the beginning of 2015. There were 105,000 applications in August and 37,000 in the first week of September.

Germany will take in 800,000 people this year – four times the number accepted in 2014 and an EU record.
