For many migrants arriving in Europe, Germany will mark the end of their journey. Authorities there are bracing for an influx of hundreds of thousands of people this year. But one proposal is getting a lot of attention: A politician in the south of the country has suggested settling the migrants in former East Germany, a region largely deserted after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Houses there remain vacant and job positions are waiting to be filled.
