Company Offers Sending Remains Of Loved Ones To Moon

A San Francisco startup founded in 2013 is set to begin delivering payloads of cremated ashes to the lunar surface soon—becoming the first entrant into the space burial business since a Houston-based company began sending ashes into space in 1997.

After over 15 years, the space burial business is finally a somewhat competitive market. 


Elysium Space plans to send "symbolic portion" of loved ones' remains to the lunar surface aboard Astrobotic Techology’s Griffin lander. 


The company will compete for customers with Houston-based Celestis.
