Mr. Arashi’s Amazing Freak Show: by Maruo (banned in Japan)
Midori by Suehiro Maruo / Hiroshi Harada
Maruo’s book Shōjo Tsubaki (aka Mr. Arashi’s Amazing Freak Show) has been adapted into an animated film by Hiroshi Harada with a soundtrack by J.A. Sizer, but it has received very little release. In Europe it was marketed under the name Midori, after the main character.
Tokyo City. Mid 50’s. Midori, a 12-year old orphan girl, is rescued by Mr. Crash, the manager of a freakish circus. Subject to the freak’s degrading and puffer fantasies, Midair, escapes her fate thanks to Wonder Saints, a hypnotist dwarf (Lolly), in front of enthusiastic crowds… A cult movie, banned in Japan. Based on the Superhero Mauro’s “Mr. Crash’s Amazing Freak Show”!
