UK: Tony Blair warns Labour Party of 'annihilation' if left-winger Corbyn is elected leader

Tony Blair has warned that Britain’s opposition Labour Party risks “annihilation” if, as expected, it elects hard-left veteran Jeremy Corbyn as its leader.

Writing In today’s Guardian newspaper, the former Labour prime minister couldn’t be more graphic, declaring: “The party is walking eyes shut, arms outstretched over the cliff’s edge to the jagged rocks below.”

It is Blair’s second intervention in a leadership race that has sent shockwaves through centre-left Labour since its crushing election defeat in May.

Keen to return the party to its socialist roots, Corbyn, 66, was initially viewed as an outsider but he has surged into a commanding lead in the contest.
