1 Million Gallons of Toxic Sludge Turns Animas River Orange
  • 9 years ago
Colorado’s Animas River, seen by drone, turned a disgustingly distinct shade of orange when about one million gallons of toxic waste flowed into the river from a nearby mine. The wastewater, which is rich in heavy metals such as lead and cadmium as well as the poisonous arsenic, was unintentionally released by an Environmental Protection Agency team as they were working at the decommissioned Gold King Mine.
