US says IS group has made 'substantial gains' in Iraq

Washington's envoy to the coalition fighting the Islamic State group says the jihadists have scored important advances in Iraq despite a sustained US-led air campaign.

In a different development, the Pentagon says US-led airstrikes have killed "several hundred" jihadist fighters in and around Kobane.
