Prolonged Drought Surprisingly Boosting Lake Mead Tourism
  • 9 years ago
Lake Mead’s record-low water levels due to the ongoing drought is resulting in a rise in tourism since visitors now have better access to the ruins of a town and the wreckage of a WWII bomber that lay at the bottom.

The prolonged drought on the West Coast is having an unexpectedly positive effect on one area in Nevada.

Lake Mead is experiencing increased tourism activity as water levels drop to record lows, revealing historic sites and artifacts that had previously been inaccessible.

According to park officials, the area had 47 percent more visitors this spring compared to the previous year and 30 percent more thus far this summer than last.
